Over The Rainbow – Harry Nilsson
I watched You’ve Got Mail again tonight. I have seen that whenever I’m anxious, depressed or stressed, light hearted, sweet movies help me relieve my nerves. After the 2 hours of pure bliss I don’t feel that tensed any more. The thing that really calms me down is a story which nice and enticing and enchanting. Although there are problems, they get solved in the end. All the heart aching stuff just culminates into something that warms the heart. And the music … that is such a pain reliever. Geoffrey Latham had said that “Music is the vernacular of the human soul“. He was SO right. It is for the soul. It helps to connect the body with the soul. And the music of “You’ve Got Mail” … well, whatever we say about it it would seem lesser than what I actually feel about it.
The one song that I want to talk about here is the one that I have heard in 2 movies actually … both Tom-Meg starrer – Sleepless In Seattle and of course, You’ve Got Mail.
“Somewhere Over The Rainbow…” as Harry Nilsson swoons in his operatic voice, life seems so beautiful. His larynx does have the power to allure the listener to a world pretty close to heaven.
Btw, FYI Ray Charles sang the same song in “Sleepless In Seattle”. The song is written by E.Y. Harburg and Harold Arlen.
Here I’m sharing the song with you … it is my all time favorites…
Lyrics:
Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high
There’s a land that I heard of, once in a lullaby
Somewhere over the rainbow, skies are blue
And the dreams that you dare to dream
Really do come true
Someday I’ll wish upon a star,
And wake up where the cloouds are far behind me
Where troubles melt like lemon drops,
Away above the chimney tops
That’s where you’ll find me
Somewhere over the rainbow, bluebirds fly
Bird fly over the rainbow, why then, oh why can’t I
If happy little bluebirds fly beyond the rainbow,
Why, oh why can’t I?

Kunfu Panda – A Review
Don’t get me wrong, but the first time I heard about Kung fu Panda, all I thought was – it’s just another animated movie. I didn’t understand why my cousin obsessed about this movie. She had set her ringtone and wallpaper with Kung fu Panda’s stuff! I thought it to be childish. But now, after me watching it, I want to set my wallpaper as this Panda too. I understand now. The obsession, the love, the whole hooplah around the movie. I get it. Totally.
Let me tell you, this is not just any animated movie. It’s an inspiration beyond thought. It shows a path where there isn’t any. The concept, along with the animation works, dialogs and voices, is just so … beyond any word describable.
I might be just carried away with the movie. But you have to watch this movie to actually feel what I feel right now.
The story in short: Po, a noodle maker’s son (more like adopted son), dreams of becoming a great Kung fu star. But his reality shows him making and serving noodles and if he does well one day he will earn the right to know the secret ingredient of the “secret ingredient” soup from his father. Then one day comes when through some sheer luck and yearning he gets chosen as the dragon warrior by the greatest Kung fu master of all times. But the fat panda that he is, nobody really believes that he could be the greatest warrior of all times. His teacher also has a hard time believing that and inwardly wishes that he disappears from the premises. Then comes the day when quick decisions have to be taken as an old student of the teacher, who has gone bad, has broken the strongest prison and come out to get hold of the dragon scroll that can only be given to the real dragon warrior. Thus begins the difficult journey of readying Po to fight the battle.
The tension, drama and finally triumph might sound like an old formula. But the moral of self-belief and everything brought together makes it one of the best movies of all times.
I’d suggest that everybody should have a DVD at home. It’s a must watch and a must keep.

American Television Addiction
10 years from now, I was a teenager who just had discipline and studies in her mind. But just after 1st year in college, all the discipline and studies went out of the iron framed window and I was stuck to what the intellent and wise call the “Idiot Box”. 10 years later, I’m here voicing my (parents) dilemma … the Super-Idiot box… the Computer. Many would disagree … How can you call the computer “super idiot”? Obviously the computer is supposed to be the super-intelligent invention of man. But if a person uses it to only watch TV shows and write about them… then? Super-”intelligent”, huh?!
‘Nyways … coming out of the controversy, what I meant was I am watching TV shows nowadays
… loads of them… all the time … and that keeps my computer on for at least 10 hrs a day. Although my connection isn’t that good… but it doesn’t hamper the downloading continuity. After download, I watch them, re-watch them, talk about them with myself… and of course, once in a while write about them and sometimes make videomixes with them… Oh, I keep them in my storage system. And if this doesn’t prove to you the “addiction” part… then…. how about this? … When my computer was down and wasn’t working, I spent hours with headaches, cravings and paranoia. To top it all… I had a persistent body pain and headache. That might also be because of the frequent visits to the computer shops, standing while the computer mechanic looked into the problem and tried to deduce the possible way to revive my (computer’s) life and me thinking up strategies to steal my brother’s laptop from Dehradun!
Ok, now to the American Television viewing part. Ugly Betty, Smallville, Friends, Gilmore Girls, Heroes, Scrubs, Grey’s Anatomy, Hell’s Kitchen … are few of what I watch. Yeah, it’s not ending… cause soon I’m planning to start with ER, House, 24, Hannah Montana, Lost … and more … and more. Addiction part, hence, proved!
Hey Reader to this blog post, are you like me too? If you are … tell me one thing … when does this addiction end? Is there any re-habilitation centres for this kinda thing, like we have for alcoholism, smoking and likes?
Help me! Please!

Laws of Thermodynamics
I have always sucked at physics. So, to study the laws of thermodynamics I needed an explanation which was really like a beginners layman explanation. So, I googled it and I found some really amazing answers. I am recounting one of them here…
1st Law
You can’t winThis is the law of energy conservation, or law number one. It states that in any closed system, you will always wind up with the same amount of energy you started with. For example, take X amount of matter, which has a certain rest energy amount. If you were to attempt to completely destroy the matter, it would merely be converted to another form of energy. (ie. heat, EM radiation) The total amount of energy from this heat would still be equal to the original amount the matter had. Basically, energy can neither be created nor destroyed. Hence the title, you can’t win.
2nd Law
You can’t break evenThis is the second law dealing with entropy. The disorder of a system can never decrease. Take the example above of matter, for example. If you convert the matter into radiation, the total amount of energy in the system stays the same, but the potential energy has decreased. The radiation that carries the energy from the now absent matter cannot be used to do work. One example of entropy is the universe as a whole. As time goes by, most of the energy in the universe will be in the form of radiation, and cannot be used for work. Hence, the universe dies a “heat death” and humans are screwed.
3rd Law
You can’t leave the gameThe third law states that the temperature of absolute zero for a system is impossible. There was an article about this on Physics Post, at http://physicspost.com/articles.php?articleId=2
The explanations above are not the most detailed, but maybe someone here can provide more insight.
Oh btw, the 2nd Law is only for a closed system…
The second law states that for a closed system entropy can never decrease.
It is certainly possible to decrease entropy by shuffling it to a different place. For example, a freezer freezing water. Ice has less disorder than water. To freeze it, you need to take the ‘disorder’ from the water and push it into a different place: The air outside the refrigerator.
The zero’th law is really simple.
If particle A is the same temperature as particle B, and particle B is the same temperature as particle C, then particle A is the same temperature as particle C.
The point is that there is a rule which governs thermometers. It’s a ‘duh’ type statement, but the three laws have nothing in them which say that a thermometer which reads 20 degrees for one object will actually read 20 degrees for another object.
